The next morning I went to the Essex Farm Cemetery. This cemetery is located on the front line right up against the canal. In the concrete bunkers located there the dressing stations were located and in one of them John Mccrae wrote his famous poem "In Flanders Fields." Sadly this famous Canadian died in 1918 from a combination of pneumonia and meningitis.
The Prussian Monument in Placenoit is erected on the site of where a French artillery battery tried to stop the German advance.
